3 Tips for Managing Affiliate Programs

After spending days researching and evaluating affiliate

programs, you've made your decision and signed up, not

just with one program, but with several programs that

complement each other. You feel ready to take the next

step and start promoting your programs.

Don't!

There are a few things you need to do and consider

before you start putting all of your time into promoting

your new business.

1. Get Organized

There's nothing worse than needing your affiliate IDs

and passwords and not having them on hand.

A simple solution is to copy your IDs, passwords, and

referral URLs into a text file and save it to a folder

on your computer called 'Affiliates', or something

similar that's easy for you to remember. This way when

you need this critical information you'll know exactly

where it is.

Also keep track of any training materials you download

in the same manner. It's nervewracking to download an

ebook that shows you how to triple your revenue only to

lose it somewhere on your hard drive because you don't

remember where you stored it.

2. Become Familiar with Your Affiliate Program

You've just signed up with a good program so it's in

your own best interest to learn everything about it you

possibly can.

Go to the affiliate members area of the website and

browse around. Read the training materials. Find out

how much support you can expect from the program. Post

in the forums if they have any.

The more you know about your program the easier

it will

be sign up affiliates. You'll be able to tell them

exactly what benefits they'll receive in clear terms.

If your affiliate program has marketing materials

available, consider using them. Don't reinvent the

wheel. Until you get comfortable enough to write your

own ad copy, use what your affiliate provides. You can

even tweak the pre-written ads to customize them for

your own unique business.

3. Make a Budget

I know you're excited about your new opportunities and

want to get started right away. But take a few minutes

and think about how much money you're willing and ale to

spend on marketing.

Although advertising online can be relatively

inexpensive, costs can still spiral out of control if

you're not careful.

Write down a monthly advertising budget. When you've

spent the money you've allocated to advertising, stop.

Building an online business takes time. You don't want

to burn through your savings, or worse, your household

budget, in a few short weeks.

Keep track of your expenses and think carefully about

all of your marketing purchases.

By doing these three things--getting organized, becoming

familiar with your affiliate, and making a

budget--you'll be able to effectively manage your

affiliate programs. This can only help you build a

successful online business.
